State of Bahia - Cultural Capital of Brazil

State of Bahia is one of the states among the twenty six states of mighty Brazil. Its geographic location, which is northeastern part of the country and along the Atlantic, makes it a strategic point of the country neighboring nine states. State of Bahia also ranks fourth in terms of population. Looking area-wise it is the fifth largest state in Brazil. But the most important of all is that State of Bahia gets the highest honor when it comes to the history and culture of Brazil as it constitutes the early history of the country. The capital city of Bahia is Salvador, a bustling city with natural splendor and intriguing history.

The other important cities of State of Salvador are Itaparica, Camacari, Cachoeira, Nazare, Sao Felix, Ilheus, Itabuna, Porto Seguro, Prado, Feira de Santana and Santo Amaro. A special mention about the city of Porto Seguro, where tourism is thriving these days due its scenic location, beautiful weather and the variety of things one can do there ranging from having delicious foods to best of drinks to music to dancing to what not.

Brazil’s population was about 190 million as of 2005 census where as State of Bahia had a population of 13.8 million. State of Bahia neighbors Piaui in the north, Tocantins in the west, Menas Gerais in the south, Sergipe in the east, Pernambuco in the northeast and Alagoas in the east. The other important states of Brazil are Sau Paulo and Rio de Janeiro which also belong to the list of most populous states of the world. Notwithstanding their population the two states are still the most popular tourist destinations especially Rio de Janeiro for its annual carnival while Sao Paula city the capital of State of Sao Paulo is known for its high rises having the third biggest skyline in the world.

The accessories of Candomble (African version of old Roman Catholicism) people are easy to find in Salvador.  There are two shops selling these accessories situated on the ground level of Edificio Themis south of Praça da Se in Salvador's historical center.  These shops are fascinating and should definitely be given a walk-through even if you don’t plan on buying.

State of Bahia has everything to offer to the travelers from beaches to resorts to architecture to culture to arts to shopping making it a complete visitor’s destination.
