Country of Hospitality: El Salvador

El Salvador is a Central American country along North Pacific Ocean. The official name of El Salvador is Republic of El Salvador which got its freedom in the year 1821 from Spain and in 1839 from the CAF, Central American Federation. A twelve-year civil war, which cost about seventy thousand lives, came to an end in 1992 after an understanding between the government and leftist rebels which heralded an era of political & military reforms. The area of the country is roughly 21,040 sq km.

El Salvador climate is hot and humid with rainy season from May to October and arid season commencing November to April. Also El Salvador climate is tropical in coast and temperate in uplands. The terrain is mostly mountains with narrow coastal belt and central plateau. The country is also known as known as the Land of Volcanoes; regular and occasionally destructive earthquakes and volcanic activity; extremely prone to hurricanes. The population of the country is roughly about 7 million. Ethnic groups consists of mestizo 90%, white 9%, and Amerindian 1%. The religion followed is primarily Roman Catholic constituting 83% and other religions constitute 17%. San Salvador is the capital city of El Salvador.

The right time to visit El Salvador is during the dry season. Also, this is the time when most of the cultural festivals are celebrated.

The other cities/places/names which are named Salvador are Salvador, Lanao del Norte a city in Philippines; Salvador Mazza, a city in Argentina; Salvador Dali a famous twentieth century Spanish Surrealist Painter; Salvador Novo, a Mexican writer; Salvador Bacarisse, a Spanish composer; Salvador Espriu, a Spanish writer.

Salvador is a small town or bayan in local language in the province of Lanao del Norte in Philippines. The town has a population of around 17,000 and with 3,400 families as per 2000 census. Bayans are further sub-divided into barangays. Salvador is sub-divided into twenty-five barangays. The area of the Salvador, Lanao del Norte is about 11,400 hectares consisting of 2.2% of urban habitation and rest 97.8% rural.

There is another city called Salvador, a city in Argentina called Salvador Mazza. It is a small town with a population of about 16,000 located in the province of Salta. It is around 400 kilometer from the city of Salta which is also the capital of the province. The town was incorporated on September 20, 1951. Salvador Mazza is connected to the rest of the country through railroad Belgrano.

There lived a renowned artist also by name Salvador. Salvador Dali was a Spanish artist who was born on May 11, 1904 in Catalonia, Spain. His full name was Salvador Domingo Felipe Jacinto Dali y Domenech. Other than being a surrealist artist he was an excellent sculptor, draughtsman, writer, illustrator, painter, photographer, jewelry designer, and film maker. Salvador Dali had amazing imagination and extravagant personality which made Salvador Dali an outstanding artist.

There was a writer by name Salvador Novo who was born in July 30, 1904 in Mexico City, Mexico. He was not only a writer but also a poet, dramatist, translator, industrialist, television anchor and Mexico City’s authorized chronicler. His works had great influence in politics, arts, media and the Mexican culture in common. He was a liberalist and challenged Catholicism during 20th century in Mexico. He was also a self confessed homosexual.

Another person lived by name Salvador, a composer called Salvador Bacarisse Chinoria born on September 12, 1898 in Paris, France who promoted new music and fought against traditional conservative music. He produced music for the piano, Tesoro e Boabdil (an opera), orchestra 4 piano concert and violin concerts. His most renowned work to this day is the Concert for Guitar and Orchestra in a minor Opus 72.

Salvador Espriu, a Spanish poet who used to write in Catalan language. Born in July, 1913 in Catalonia, Spain Salvador Espriu was a internationally renowned poet whose works have been translated into many languages also. Some of his famous works include El Doctor Rip, Laia, Aspectes, Miratge a Citera and Les Hores.
